Alumni partner with Xavier University to develop Teacher
Appreciation Initiative called Year of the Teacher
Year
of the Teacher,
a campaign developed by
Leadership Jefferson alumni, Fred Parker, Cliff Robinson, and Ronnie Slone, to show appreciation for teachers in the Orleans
and surrounding parishes, has been hailed as one of the most
unique and uplifting events of the year. Fellow alumni, Karen Dunn and Glenn Hayes
also joined the effort as project committee members to help manage the
sizeable task of managing and hosting two dinner receptions with a
combined total attendance of over 1,800.
The first event, an appreciation reception and dinner, was held on April
23, 2008 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, LA. Following this
kickoff reception, a year-long campaign of billboards, t-shirts and
ultimately tv and radio was launched - all with the one objective, to
say, Thank You. Returning to the Pontchartrain Center on
May 7, 2009, again for a night of dining and dancing, teachers of the
region "had a blast". "Something like this has never been done
before - for the business community to step out and publicly say thank
you with a party like this - it is heart warming." Similar
sentiments were expressed by many - which is a great testament for the
inspiration and leadership that is developed and mentored in programs
like Leadership Jefferson.

Alumni holding key positions on the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce
2009 Executive Committee
During
the recent Jefferson Chamber annual Gala Jubilation, it was announced
that several Leadership Jefferson graduates would be holding key
positions on the Chamber Executive Board - Ronnie Slone: Chair Elect,
Ricky Burke: Finance Committee Chair, Holly Callia: Special Events
Chair, Greg Jordan: At-Large Member.
